Hatchets headed for Our League
Jedidiah Wahoo, lead managing partner of HH Inc., held a press conference Sunday morning outside of Hatchets Park in Harlem to announce the addition of the Harlem Hatchets to the Our League Bronze division. The Hatchets will begin Our League play in the 2023 season.
In announcing the move, Wahoo noted the numerous roster changes needed to make the Hatchets league-eligible.
"We appreciate the contribution of all the Live players who contributed to the Hatchets progress during the first four seasons of OOTP20 play. However, we feel that moving to Our League is a natural step for our future," Wahoo told the press.
In addition to putting pitching mainstays Andrew Miller and Josh Hader on the auction block, the light-hitting Hatchets were forced to give up hard-hitting infielder Javier Baez, who contributed 17 homeruns and 66 runs batted in during the 2022 season.
Offense has been the main obstacle for the Hatchets during their first four seasons. Despite some of their struggles, Harlem came close to their first postseason in Bronze this year. Finishing the regular season in a tie for first place, a disappointing 3-2 loss to division champ HHI ended 2022 and presented the opportunity for new beginnings in 2023 with Our League.
The star of Harlem, 2021 MVP Walter Johnson, is looking forward to competition with other oldtimers in Our League. Johnson led Bronze 201 in ERA for 2022. He is joined by number 2 starter and late-season addition, Wilbur Wood. Wood was winless in his four starts, but showed good command of his knuckleball in compiling 3.00 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
More roster changes are coming to Harlem as they continue to get ready for the 2023 season.
