I don't even care if my catchers hit. I want a guy with a high defensive rating. If they can even hit their weight I'm thrilled as long as they throw out runners and help pitching do their best.
Some defensive gems at silver level are Tony Pena, Benito Santiago, Gary Carter, and Charles Johnson. At gold you can't beat Ivan Rodriguez, although Lieberthal is great too. Rarer but also great is Ray Fosse.
