Walkers news: Sept. 19 -- St. Louis 4, Des Moines 3
Record: St. Louis 85-64, 3rd, 4 GB Des Moines
Andrew Toles hit a one-out pinch-hit homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap a tie and Aaron Nola pitched eight full innings for St. Louis, helping the River Walkers to a 4-3 win over Des Moines at Busch Stadium (1997).
Toles first home run of the season, a solo shot, came off Harvesters relief pitcher Bryan Garcia and snapped a 3-3 tie.
Earlier, Aaron Nola had sent Des Moines down in order in the top of the eighth inning.
In his out, Nola allowed three runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one, while eventually earning his 16th win of the season.
Grant Dayton recorded the first two outs of the ninth inning, before giving way to Daniel Hudson, who got Carson Kelly to fly out to left on the first pitch he threw.
Unfortunately, Hudson, who earned his 15th save, strained a bicep tendon while throwing the pitch and will be lost for the season.
Rafael Devers and Cody Bellinger hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning off Nola to help the Harvesters seize a 2-0 lead.
St. Louis grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second off Des Moines starting pitcher Zach Wheeler. Christian Arroyo drove in two of the runs with a double.
The Harvesters tied it in the seventh, when John Lehto smacked a triple off Nola.
