In the top of the sixth, Bertell scored from third on a throwing error by Ranew as Brock was stealing second. A couple of walks later and the bases were loaded with one out. Williams flied out to center and then Taussig threw Brock out a home as he had tagged up and tried to score.

In the top of the seventh, Taussig got the Colt .45s closer with an RBI single. Taussig would later score when Amalfitano grounded to short.
Bobby Shantz took the mound for the Colt .45s in the top of the eighth.
Barney Schultz took the mound for the Cubs in the bottom of the eighth. Aspromonte hit an RBI single to make it a one-run game.
In the bottom of the ninth, with the tying run at first, Spangler flew out to center to end the game.
The two teams combined for 23 hits in the contest.
Final score: Chicago 6 Houston 5.
