The Rangers continued their road trip with a three game series in Boston against the Red Sox. The Rangers are 2-1 so far on this road trip. The Red Sox are in second place in the AL East but trail the Baltimore Orioles by 14 games. The Red Sox lead the season series over the Rangers 6-3.

In the bottom of the third, the Red Sox loaded the bases with nobody out. Rain began to fall. Smith delivered an RBI single. Fisk did the same. Petrocelli flew to left for the first out. Griffin followed with a run-scoring single. Aparicio brought two home with a single. The Red Sox batted around the order in the inning.

In the top of the fourth, Mincher put the Rangers on the board with a sacrifice fly.
Play was stopped in the bottom of the fourth for a 59 minute rain delay. Later in the inning, Fisk hit a three run homer.
In the top of the fifth, Maddox hit a two run homer.
Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the seventh, pinch hitter Ted Ford hit an RBI single. Wynn added a two run triple.

In the top of the ninth, Bobby Bolin took the mound for the Red Sox. The Rangers cut the deficit to two on a Wynn RBI double. The Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Mel D Queen took the mound for the Red Sox. Petrocelli booteda Billings grounder, Nelson scored from third and it was a one run game. On a full count pitch, Harrah drew a walk to force in the tying run. Kubiak then tripled to bring all three baserunners home and the Rangers had come from down 9-1 to take a three run lead. Two walks later and bases were loaded again with one out. Nelson went down on strikes for the second out. Wynn drewa walk to bring home another run. Howard singled to bring two more home. With runners at first and second and two out, Lynn McGlothen took the mound for the Red Sox. Mincher singled to load the bases with two out. Wynn then scored on a wild pitch. The Rangers ended up scoring ten runs in the inning.
Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the ninth. Pinch hitter Phil Gagliano led off with a home run.
The two teams combined for 31 hits in the contest.
Final score: Texas 16 Boston 10.
