I've never given Trout a chance, but I've given Betts a season or two in Perfect multiple times and have had sub .230 AVG success with him every_time (even hitting in a maxed-out AVG/2B/3B home ballpark). Figure if I'm spending 22/23k on an everyday player, I'd rather they at least be left handed so they'll have a greater chance to hit all the great RH pitching that's in the league.
I'm sure there are scenarios where both Trout and Betts would be more successful consistently, but I tried a number of different things with Betts and the guys around him in the lineup, and could never get any form of good consistency out of him. I guessing if these two were LH batters they'd perform
much more consistently in Perfect where nearly everyone is using RHP.
