His Defensive Efficiency (if a good measure) is high. Errors are bad, but having bad range is equally bad (if not more so). Griffey is definitely good, Trout has good range but not much of an arm (though arm is not as important in CF).
There have been some good formulas, spreadsheets, and tables shared on these forums from DonkeyKongSr (my apologies if I credited the wrong person) that can show guys that can be trained up to amazing levels at other positions. Shortstops with great defense tend to make incredible players at 2B and SS whereas many of the best 1Bmen are tall infielders and/or outfielders (if the outfielder has a decent range in the IF).
