In the bottom of the seventh, Maddox tied the game with an RBI single.

Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the eighth. Cater put the Red Sox back in the lead with a run-scoring double. Carl Yastrzemski added a run-scoring single.

Bobby Bolin took the mound for the Red Sox in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, with a runner on first and one out, Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers. Griffin brought a run in with a single. Aparicio then knocked in two with a single.

Lynn McGlothen took the mound for the Red Sox in the bottom of the ninth looking to hold onto a five run lead.

The Red Sox tallied 14 hits in the win while the Rangers committed three errors.
