In the bottom of the first, Mincher hit a two run homer.
In the top of the second, Brown scored from third when Harrah misplayed a Rodriguez grounder.
In the top of the third, Northrup tied the game with an RBI triple.
In the bottom of the third, Nelson gave the Rangers the lead back with an RBI single. Howard followed with a walk to load the bases with one out. Burroughs popped it up to second for out number two. Billings then came through with a two run single.

In the top of the fourth, Brinkman hit an RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth, Nelson got himself another RBI single. Howard followed with a three run homer. With a runner on first and two out, Bill Slayback took the mound for the Tigers and finally got them out of the inning.
In the top of the sixth, the Rangers fourth error of the game allowed the Tigers to load the bases with one out. Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers. Brinkman brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. Willie Horton added an RBI single.
Ron Perranoski took the mound for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth.
After six: Texas 9 Detroit 5
Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the eighth.
Fred Holdsworth took the mound for the Tigers in the bottom of the eighth. Maddox led off with a single, giving him 5 for the game, a Texas Rangers team record. Howard would later bring Maddox home with a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the ninth, the Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out. Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers. McAuliffe scored on a passed ball. Freehan brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. But the Tigers would get no more.
The two teams combined for 23 hits.
