The Highlanders were 16-9 in July, expanding their lead in the American League. Several teams are huddled together in the middle of the division, but no one is closer than 6 games from first.

The Cubs were 8-16 this month, and the NL has another leader. Actually, it has two. Cincinnati retook the NL lead thanks to a strong beginning to the month, but they have struggled lately, allowing the Phillies to catch up. Philadelphia was only 14-11 in July, but it was good enough to earn them a tie for first.

Batters of the Month:

AL - Ricky "Bird Legs" Childerhose, 1B, Philadelphia Athletics - He hit .372 with 11 RBI and 21 runs scored.

NL - Jerome Uri, SS, Philadelphia Phillies - He hit .375 with 21 RBI and 12 runs scored.

Pitchers of the Month:

AL - Raymond Gindler, St. Louis Browns - He was 5-2 with an 0.71 ERA.

NL - David Smith, St. Louis Cardinals - He was 3-1 with an 0.77 ERA.

Ancestors:

Whiskey Allen, C, Cleveland - Whiskey hit .360 with 5 RBI and 12 runs scored this month, but the Broncos continue to disappoint. Their pitching has been lousy, but they have several young arms on the way up. "Greasy" Holloway is 10-10 with an impressive 2.97 ERA in his rookie debut. "Musclehead" Smith made his debut this season too, but he struggled. They also have a potential future ace in "Blue" Luxford who has yet to pitch in the majors.

Heinrich Kahle, 1B, Cincinnati - Heinrich hit .357 (10-for-28) this month. He is still relegated to part-time duty, but his role is increasing little by little. He has already surpassed last season's at-bat total of 103.

Chief Netsky, SP, New York (A) - Chief was 2-3 with a 4.23 ERA this month. On July 24th, he threw the first shutout of his career. It was against Detroit, and he allowed just 2 hits and 2 walks. It was also the first complete game of his young career.
