09/07/1986 - Tigers Lose, 5-3, at Oakland Coliseum
The Detroit Tigers got a superb performance from pitcher Dan Petry. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Oakland. The Athletics won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Petry was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings allowing 3 runs. The third-place Athletics have won 4 in a row.
The Athletics got a big at-bat from right fielder Mike Davis. For the game, Davis was 1-4 with a double. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 32nd double of the season gave Oakland a 4-3 lead.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Davis told the Oakland Times.
