08/28/1986 - Orioles Drop Athletics with Late Score
Benefiting from Larry Sheets's productive game, the Baltimore Orioles downed the Oakland Athletics, 8-7. Sheets went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Orioles. Baltimore reliever Bill Swaggerty picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-2. Steve Ontiveros was collared with the loss. Rich Bordi converted his 25th save in 32 tries.
Sheets had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 2-0 fastball from Steve Ontiveros, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Orioles a 8-7 lead. It was the 24th home run of the year for Sheets.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Sheets told the Baltimore Daily News.
Baltimore now owns a record of 58-68.
