08/11/1986 - Athletics Deal Mariners Painful Loss

The Oakland Athletics did just enough to sneak past the Seattle Mariners, 6-5, at Oakland Coliseum. Oakland right fielder Mike Davis earned player of the game honors. Oakland reliever Jose Rijo picked up the win to move to 4-0. Mark Huismann suffered the loss. The Athletics bumped their record to 66-49 with this latest triumph.

Davis had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the 12th. On a first pitch splitter from Mark Huismann, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Athletics a 6-5 lead. It was the 14th home run of the year for Davis.

"We'll savor this win," Davis told the Oakland Times, "then get ready for the next game."
