California Angels center fielder Ruppert Jones banged out 5 hits today, but it was not enough to keep his club from succumbing to the Oakland Athletics, 7-5. He went 5-for-5 and raised his batting average a few points.

"If the hits keep coming," an upbeat Jones said after the game, "the runs will too. And, more importantly, so will the wins."

Ruppert Jones singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

This season Jones is swinging the bat at a .311 rate with 117 hits in 376 at-bats. To date he has hit 19 home runs, scored 67 runs and driven in 66.
