06/25/1983 - Strawberry and Kingman Lead Charge, New York Blasts Phillies
The New York Mets topped the Philadelphia Phillies, 14-0, in NL action at Shea Stadium. The player of the game was New York right fielder Darryl Strawberry. Walt Terrell, who went 6.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with no runs on 3 hits, while walking 6 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 1-1. New York now sits in third place in the NL East Division at 34-35.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the fourth, with the game tied, Brian J Giles was at the plate when New York scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Mets to go in front, 1-0.
"We'll savor this win," Giles told the New York Today, "then get ready for the next game."
