06/06/1981 - Astros Bridle Mets, 3-1

In a low-scoring tilt between the Houston Astros and the New York Mets, Frank LaCorte was the difference-maker. The Houston right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-1 win. LaCorte got the win, improving to 2-5. He allowed 5 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. LaCorte allowed 1 earned run. The save went to Dave S Smith, his 7th this season.

Had Mike Ivie not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Ivie hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Astros.

"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said LaCorte.

New York has now lost 4 consecutive games.
