Game 1 saw Rube Waddell in fine form as the Pittsburgh Pirates took the first game of the series 5-1. His 9 innings of 3 hits and 1 run gave him player of the game.
The Pirates made it 2 in a row as Jesse Tannehill led them to a 7-3 victory at Exposition Park. Mike Grady picked up a home run for the Pirates.
Game 3 saw the series move to Philadelphia but the result was the same as the Pirates took a commanding 3 game lead on the back of an 8-2 win. Deacon Phillippe gave up only 1 earned run on 9 hits over his 9 innings.
Game 4 and the Pittsburgh Pirates pushed further ahead with another strong performance from Rube Waddell. He blanked the Athletics in his teams 9-0 win, giving up only 6 hits along the way.
Game 5 proved that the Pirates were the class of the league this year as they took home their first championship win. The actual game was a tight affair as the Pirates won 2-1, after a late 2 run comeback in inning 9, thanks to a second home run of the series from Mike Grady.
Rube Waddell earned man of the series for his 2 outstanding pitching performances in the 5 games.
