And I think only teams should be able to decide if and when and which numbers should be retired for them, and under what circumstances, not whole leagues or commissioners or whoever. If someone wants to have Jackie's number retired for their team, that should only be the case for the teams that Jackie played for in his entire professional baseball career, in my opinion. But to force all other teams he was never associated with to retire that number is illogical and needless, in my view.

Granted, Jackie did a lot of good things in his life, for sure, and made a huge societal impact on the world, both in terms of his athletic career and in the non-sports world, and I am not denying that. But it was still not necessary to retire his number sport-wide, just as it wasn't necessary for the NHL to retire Gretzky's number 99 either, in my view.

If this were to be implemented, I would just unretire #42 for all non-associated teams, as I have done before, but this idea should not be forced on any player of OOTP, nor should the non-use of #99 for the FHM players, either, I think. That is all for now, at least, then, folks. CD out.

P.S. In the case of Sutter for the Cardinals, for example, though, after a certain point, I might allow #42 to be retired for the Cardinals, as it was done in reality after his election to the Hall of Fame. Or allow it to be retired for other teams' players who also wore #42 for those teams, of course. That is all for now, I think. CD out.
half jokingly half serious... are you trying to hit a word count on a internet forum essay or something?
