Blue Jays, Braves Confirm Trade: Martian traded to Atlanta

The Toronto Blue Jays announced a deal with the Braves today, sending 35-year-old C Russell Martin and 22-year-old minor league RHP Nate Pearson to Atlanta for 27-year-old RHP Julio Teheran. It had been talked about for the past few weeks and everything came together late last night. All players are expected to be joining their respective clubs shortly.

Atlanta will retain 75% of Teheran's remaining contract, leaving the Jays to pay only $2,800,000 of his contract.

Looking at his all-time stats, Martin has a career .249 average with 1386 hits, 253 doubles, 9 triples, 189 home runs and 758 RBIs to date. He has scored 783 runs, walked 772 times and stolen 100 bases.

Teheran has a lifetime record of 69 wins and 61 losses and a 3.62 ERA.

The move gives the Blue Jays $55,955,100 to spend this off season in free agency. The Blue Jays top priority right now is starting pitching.
