Tough to tell what exactly happened there without seeing the exact circumstances, e.g. the starter being fatigued in game 1 or playing poorly prior to that. Once the AI makes a starter switch in the playoffs, he's likely to use the same goalie in subsequent games, so that's likely why he continued to go with the backup if the backup played reasonably well despite losing. Do you still have a save from before that season ended? (Or one fairly early in July, I might be able to get the older data from the rolling save.) Having a look at that might give me a better idea of what exactly happened.
