There’s no doubt
Montreal has talent. They are stacked on LW, infact
Wendel Clark is better in every aspect then
Derek King, but his physical skills fit the fourth line better then
Kings.
Shanahan just broke out with a 70 point season.
Rob Blake has emerged as a star.
Craig Billington has become a 4 star goalie. So ya, I can see why the cpu likes this team. On paper, they look really good. On the ice though, they haven’t come close to good in a while..
Vancouver went from their first cup finals, following two division crowns, to missing the playoffs. Here is their depth chart going into the season.
Age has caught up to
Mike Gartner. He’s going to the Hall of Fame, and has a shot at 700 goals, but he’s 34, and isn’t the same player he once was. His speed is down to 17. I don’t know what it was in his prime, but I’d imagine it was 20 minimum.
Andrew Cassels and
Steve Larmer provided very little secondary scoring last year. If the first line wasn’t scoring, it was a huge struggle. The defense isn't a strong suit, which hurts goalie
Brian Hayward. His save percentage fell 30 points last season. He needs to return to form…
