2058 Ruthlandian Union Division Championship Series (First Round)

VIPERS TO BARELY BEAT SKIPPERS IN RU FIRST ROUND
Valmara (99-55) and Crystal Lake (89-65) are the number 2 and number 4-ranked clubs in the playoffs... both teams can put a lot of runs on the scoreboard, but the Vipers have the nod in the pitching department... starters Darus Grajek (22-9/3.39), Lukasz Chojnacki (18-10/3.38), Jozef Duczynski (12-4/2.72) and Tony Joe Carnes (10-5/3.14) give the Vipers the edge... the only concern manager Don Ritchie has is in his lackluster closer Kris Fourcade (5-6/3.51 ERA/28 saves/50 G).

Crystal Lake skipper Duncan Welch will try to get by with one excellent starter Merle Pitts (23-6/2.35)... a so-so one in Robin Norborne (21-11/4.32) and a couple of questionable ones in David Plant (6-6/3.96) and raw rookie David Wynne (0-0/3.86)... the bullpen is mediocre with Yuru Kirchoff (4-4/3.31 ERA/29 saves/49 G) in the closer role... the mound staff may be suspect, but there's no doubt that the Skippers can boom the baseball with the likes of Zippy Coburn (.320 BA/27 HR/103 RBI/91 R/7 SB), Mel Brouwer (.343/29/94/114/18 SB), Jasper Shackleford (.315/28/91/100) and Gib Conlan (.288/26/100/95/1 SB).
