You dont get a whole lot of PP win or lose unless you hit one of those rare achievements that gives you a bunch. Also, bronze and silver players can still win some games so dont stress if you dont have what looks like a good team. My 2004 Ichiro Suzuki (69 overall) and 1986 Wally Backman (63 overall) are some of my best players.
Tip: You can find both of those guys for less then 100 PP last time I checked in the auction house
