V'S PRO CUP POLL VICTOR, VIPERS 2ND CHOICE
According to a poll of the Islandian media by The Islandian Times, the amazing Volusia Vigilantes will prevail in the IPA Pro Cup playoffs with the Valmara Vipers being the second-best choice... ranking third in the balloting was the Midway Wolves... and in somewhat of a surprise, the Crystal Lake Skippers were the fourth pick... postseason activity is set to begin Thursday afternoon all around the Islands... three weeks of intense competition will decide the winner of the hallowed Pro Cup trophy... first-round action shows some really fine matchups... none of the elites are lead-pipe cinches... this just might be the tightest and hottest encounters in years... all the participants are pretty much evenly matched.

Teams from the Ruthlandian Union were favored in the vote... 4 of the top 5 clubs were from that league... only Midway managed to break up the monopoly... in the Ruthlandian Division Championship round, the favorite to win it all, Volusia (105-49), will be at home at the Jailhouse, against the tough Wynnamac Sundowners (96-58), rated the 5th-best team in the Pro Cup poll... the Vigilantes had the best record in the IPA this season... #2 Valmara (99-55) will entertain #4 Crystal Lake (89-65) at War Memorial Park... the Vipers had the second-most wins... the Tycobbian Union also has two fine matchups with #3 Midway (92-62) hosting the 7th-rated Arlon Champions (93-61) at Joe Wolf Stadium and the #6 Southport Sun Sox (95-59) welcoming the #8-ranked Luxora Zorros (89-65) at Pleasure Beach Park.

Past postseason history probably means nothing except in the short term... Midway won the IPA title in '53 and '54 and did well in '55 before losing out in the second round... Wynnamac lost to Midway in the '54 Pro Cup Finals and won it in '55... the Macs have won it twice, also winning in '08... Valmara will be in quest of Pro Cup #5, having been victors in '26, '43, '49 and '50... two other participants have captured 2 trophies... Crystal Lake was the champion in '20 and '22... and Southport claimed it in '27 and '47... the Arlon Champions have only one IPA crown... that came recently in '51... Volusia nabbed it only Pro Cup way, way back in 2001, the first year of the Islandian Pro Alliance... Luxora has never won the Pro Cup and they have never reached the Finals... the Tycobbian Union has the overall edge in the Pro Cup Series, taking 30 titles to 27 for the Ruthlandian Union... the Red Bluff Red Sox defeated the Elnora All-Stars last year in the Pro Cup Finals, 4 games to 2.
