yeah, everything i do as far as player procurement is for 3-5-even 7 years in future if it's a 17/18 year old prospect.

if i am replacing a current outgoing player with what i get in return, i have thoroughly screwed up, lol. at this point i don't even need a 1-2 year FA filler ever. it's like clockwork with enough redundancies to avoid a prospect blowout or two. i also don't think twice about minor loss of talent... if the incoming guy is great, but not better, that's okay. (i have a high threshold for what stays on my team -- what i mean is i don't split hairs between a 30year old and a 23yearold with slightly reduced talent, becuase they are cheaper and allow for a greater amount of total talent onthe field at one time)

<30 is a great team! i usually have a few >30... especially knuckleballer.. they are great until 35-37 before any major reduction to ability is relevant.

but yeah, i trade between 28-32, more often i 30-32 if i can swing it. all depends on how many i have bunched up at a certain age.

e.g i currently have the bulk of my batting order 28-31 right now. so, the last couple years i've traded 1 player a bit earlier than normal to avoid the obvious cluster%$# in ~3 years if i try to replace 5-6 players in 1 or 2 years... vs. 1 or 2 each year ahead of time.

this stuff is never a surprise.. .you can see it coming for years... financial problems and dire needs at a certain position are 100% self-inflicted. even the example above with a cluster of similar aged players...i am procuring players for that bulk.. i let the opportunites available dictate which are the early replacements....

if all goes as planned the repalcement is read 2-3 years before end of contract and or veto power. that's plenty of leeway to avoid all problems. the worst problem i encounter is getting a comp pick instead of trading for better prospects. rarely do they take that long to develope.. even if they don't meet their potential, they are still ikely very good or good enough.
