That's fair, I should have mentioned that my choice of five minutes was a placeholder. One minute does seem reasonable but any sort of cushion like this in the final stages of an auction would make bidding on individual players a more palatable option, having lost several players myself in the final second of an auction without time to react.

Good point, I may still need to adjust my internal pricing. However, usually the higher bidding tends to occur in the last few seconds of an auction, which is where my suggestion could come in.

My opinion on auction sniping is that without such a safeguard as the additional minute when bid(s) are placed within the final minute of an auction that the auction house becomes a much less tolerable place. I don't have the time to babysit my auctions so I do expect to lose some players to better bids. However, when I lose them in the final second and don't have time to react it irritates me because even if I had wanted to place a counterbid I literally cannot react fast enough to do so even if I sit on the auction as it counts down. IMO, it saps some of the enjoyment of the mode for me that I've lost players without being able to react.
