Jumbo Brown 1925

Jumbo Brown, 1937 Cincinnati Reds. This is a scan of a recently purchased photo which had to have been taken on either the 12th or the 13th of June 1937 - note the scoreboard showing the New York Giants as visitors at Crosley Field and the upcoming double-header vs. the Boston Bees advertised in the background. I think it's fun for several reasons. Jumbo made just four appearances for the Reds, one of which was in the Sunday, June 13 game vs. the Giants and another in the first game of the promoted twin bill against Boston, so this photo touches on half of his Cincinnati career. Also, the Lifebuoy Soap "STOPS B.O." billboard is a blast from the past. Finally, the mystery thing hanging at the upper mid-left border is just weird.

***edit*** - I misread the 1937 schedule. Cincinnati was in New York on the 12th and 13th of June... the Giants were at Crosley Field on the 18th, 19th, and 20th. Jumbo didn't pitch in any of those games. However, the New York lineup shown on the scoreboard lists Wally Berger (#3) as batting fifth and playing center field. The Friday game - June 18 - was the only one of the series with him in the starting lineup.
