June 2040 - In Review
Players of the Month - June 2040
Delaware Conference
Vázquez June's Best Bat Choice: Lewes's Jesús Vázquez had a productive June and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Delaware Conference. The 28-year-old third baseman stood out at the plate with a .416 batting average, 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 19 runs scored. Thus far this year Vázquez has hit .340 with 23 home runs and 64 RBIs.
Abadee Collects DE Conf Pitching Award: Travis Abadee has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month award. The Clippers bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 15 strikeouts in 16 innings, holding the opposition to a .246 average and posting a 2.81 ERA and a 3-0 record. His season stats show Abadee has 16 saves in 39 relief appearances with a 7-2 mark and 2.97 ERA.
Fujihara Voted June's #1 Newcomer: Eisaku Fujihara is a latecomer to this league. The 32-year-old Lewes first baseman is putting up quality numbers, even though he's not your traditional rookie. On the heels of posting a .287 average, the Delaware Conference named him June's Rookie of the Month. He hit 10 home runs last month, knocking in 20 runs and scoring 17 runs. He banged out 27 hits and drew 15 walks to post a .402 OBP. In his 2040 season totals, Fujihara has 29 home runs, .336 BA, .448 OBP, 66 RBIs and 59 runs scored.
MarVa Conference
MV Conf's Premier Batter Picked: Martinsburg Mountaineers fans believe they've got a talented young star in Ulbrecht Gette. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in June, as he hit .372 with 14 home runs, 33 RBIs and 27 runs scored. The end result was the right fielder being named the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month. For the season Gette is currently batting .318 with 33 home runs and 78 RBIs. In 79 games he has reached base at a .432 rate and scored 68 runs to date.
King George Starter Named MV Conf's Top Pitcher: David Gutiérrez took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month award for June. The 24-year-old Royals starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 5-0 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 47 batters in 41 innings and compiled a 1.76 ERA. This year Gutiérrez has a 9-5 record and a 2.91 ERA.
MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: Víctor Santiago is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest MarVa Conference Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In June the Chesapeake hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .320 average with 31 hits, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs. This year Santiago has 2 home runs and a .307 batting average.
