In the top of the first, the Pirates had runners at the corners with one out. Nealon doubled to score Beaumont but Ritchey was thrown out at home for the third out as he was trying to score from first.

In the bottom of the first, Steinfeldt tied the game with an RBI single. Tinker followed with his own run-scoring single to give the Cubs the lead.

In the top of the third, Ritchey tied the game with an RBI single.

In the top of the fourth, Clarke gave the Pirates the lead back with an RBI single.

In the bottom of the fifth, a two-run homer by Schulte gave the Cubs the lead back.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tinker hit an inside the park home run to lead off.

After six: Chicago 5 Pittsburgh 3.

In the top of the seventh, with a runner on second and two out, Schulte dropped a Gibson fly ball and Ritchey scored to make it a one run game.

In the bottom of the eighth, Kling hit an RBI triple.

The Pirates got a runner on first in the top of the ninth but pinch hitter Otis Clymer struck out to end the game.

Final score: Chicago 6 Pittsburgh 4.
