In the top of the first, Burch picked up an RBI with a two out infield single.

In the bottom of the first, Chance drew his 70th walk of the season to give the Cubs runners at first and second with one out. But they failed to score in the inning.

In the bottom of the second, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out. Slagle then gave the Cubs the lead with a two run single.

After three: Chicago 2 St Louis 1.

In the bottom of the sixth with two out, Sheckard took second for his 25th stolen base of the season. Slagle then took advantage with a single that scored Sheckard. Two walks later and the bases were loaded. Alas, Steinfeldt flew out to center to end the inning.

After six: Chicago 3 St Louis 1.

In the top of the seventh, McBride got his 10th stolen base of the season to put a runner on second with nobody out. A single by Hoelskoetter and error by Slagle and McBride scored to make it a one run game.

In the top of the ninth with a runner on second and two out, pinch hitter Red Murray singled to right but Schulte threw Arndt out at home to end the game.

Final score: Chicago 3 St Louis 2.
