Keep the weaken/adjust settings but add a penalty for exceeding real life at bats and/or innings pitched.
The user can say something liked “for batters with fewer than 400 ABs (or whatever) that exceed their real life ABs by 20% (or whatever) will have their ratings reduced to replacement level.
This will give the user a lot more control/options in setting up their league and make historic league more realistic.
