Fritz had 0 ABs, defensive sub, bottom of the 8th? If RIce was exhausted and Fritz has good defense that seems reasonable.
I cannot remember if the left or right team is home, I am guessing right. Your depth chart shows no defensive subs which I think should mean "Do not replace my player" but what I think does not always apply.
I wonder if Rice crossed the fatigue threshold and the score and defense ratings along with pitcher handedness changes borked the AI.
