05/18/1979 - Victory Pushes Cubs Record to 19-17
Chicago starter Dennis Lamp pitched effectively against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field. The right-hander led his team to a 3-1 win. The Cubs bumped their record to 19-17 with this latest triumph.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from left fielder Bill Buckner. For the game, Buckner went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 10th double of the season gave Chicago a 2-1 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Buckner said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Kingman homered off RHP Joe H Coleman.
