IPA GOLDEN BATS GIVEN TO ITO AND BUISSON
Winning awards is old hat to this year's IPA Golden Bat Award winners, Norishige Ito of the Midway Wolves and Lenny Buisson of the Taranto Tars... both of them are notorious terrors at the plate... Ito copped his 5th Tycobbian Union top-hitter trophy and Buisson nabbed his 4th Ruthlandian Union best-batter honor.
Ito was the runaway winner in his league, topping the entire Islandian Pro Alliance with 50 homers, 150 RBIs and 118 runs, while batting a lofty .341 with 202 hits in 149 games... the 30-year-old Ito just missed hauling in the Triple Crown when he wound up second to Travis Ledger, who led both leagues with a .352 BA.
Playing in his 11th year, Ito was also acclaimed the top Tycobbian hitter in 2052, 2053, 2054 and 2055... his Midway Wolves were unexpectedly supplanted by this year's Pro Cup champion, the Red Bluff Red Sox, in the Tycobbian East Division... Ito had led the Wolves to four straight divison crowns and two Pro Cup titles... Midway was the overall IPA champion in 2053 and 2054... in his legendary career Ito is hitting .318 with 407 homers and 1168 runs batted in... Ito has two Golden Gloves and has been chosen to the All-Star team 6 times.
This year's TU Golden Bat easily outpolled runner-up Teddy Stonich of the Rolling Hills Reds and third-place finisher, Kagetoki Miyazaki of the High Mesa Mustangs... only 23 years old Stonich appeared in 152 games, batted .307 with 36 roundtrippers, 121 RBIs and 109 runs, helping his Reds to a very close second place in the TU West... at age 24 Miyazaki shined with a .290 BA, 39 home runs, 103 RBIs and 100 runs in 138 games... his Mustangs wound a very close third to Red Bluff and Midway in a three-way clash for the division... only one and a half games separated the three clubs in the Tycobbian East.
In addition to his RU Golden Bat Award this year, Taranto's Lenny Buisson has had a great career with Golden Bat trophies in 2048, 2052 and 2053, coupled with the Ruthlandian MVP in 2048... the 32-year-old Buisson had a banner year this season with a .304 mark, 49 homers, 105 RBIs and 90 runs scored... the Tars ended up in fourth place this year in the RU North Division... Buisson is a 6-time All-Star and also won the 2047 RU Rookie of the Year and is a Golden Glove defender... he has played 12 seasons in the IPA and has compiled a standout .322 lifetime batting average with 455 RBIs and 1172 RBIs... Buisson played his first 8 seasons with the Belle Plaine Musketeers... the last 4 with Taranto.
The Golden Bat voting was much tighter in the Ruthlandian Union... it was hotly-contested by Crystal Lake's Zippy Coburn, who batted .314 with 23 homers, 100 RBIs and 98 runs in 148 games... the Skippers had a fine year, but wound up second to the St. John Crusaders in the fight for the RU South title, losing out by just a single game... winding up a very close third in the balloting was Elnora's Dickie DeBusshere, who led his club to the RU East pennant by hitting .314 with 31 home runs, 105 RBIs and 97 runs in 134 games... Coburn is 28 and DeBusshere 25.
