DBL News: First-Year Player Draft:
Lost in all the hoopla of today's amateur draft are the young men who won't be going first, tenth or even fiftieth. Many of them will probably never make DELMARVA Baseball League rosters, but one and all will be spurred on by the possibility that someday they'll be playing on a championship club. Alexandria, Port Penn, Dover, Harpers Ferry and Harrington will have the first five choices. BNN analysts report that these players are likely to be high picks in the 2040 draft:
1. Stephen Rose, 22 year-old RHP out of college.
2. Eric Dudley, 20 year-old RHP out of college.
3. Steve Richards, 21 year-old RHP out of college.
4. Wes Palmer, 22 year-old RHP out of college.
5. Mike Hardin, 22 year-old LHP out of college.
6. Drew Klein, 18 year-old LHP out of high-school.
7. John Mason, 21 year-old LHP out of college.
8. Midnight Bramblewood, 21 year-old RHP out of college.
9. Tom Brown, 22 year-old LHP out of college.
10. Palmer Goeble, 17 year-old RHP out of high-school.
The top pick could be a game changer, and has been many times for many times, just look at the history of the first rounders in the DBL:
DBL History of #1 Picks:
Here is a look at the past #1's, there is a lot of talent there. Jorge Moran fell just short of the Hall-of-Fame vote this year, but he should be a lock next. First-Year Player Draft - First Round Results:
Alexandria Growlers: Drafted SP Ralph Treemont in the 2040 first-year player draft (Round 1, Pick 1, 1st overall pick).
The 22 year-old Treemont has the chance to be a game changer! He was one of the guys I was hoping would slip to #7 and would have been worth the $6 million he wants to sign. He has the ability to be a 5* pitcher in the realm of Miguel Contreras and Ricardo Gonzalez. He will be an interesting guy to watch.
Camerons thoughts: "Treemont has excellent tools and emerging as an elite starter"

I don't have a good track record here in Chadds Ford with my #1's, but then again I guess that is how you look at it. Loeffler (2031) and Wallstreet (2038) have the ability to be talked about as 'greats' where Douglas (2032), Summers (2033), Pearl (2034), Carillo (2035), and Maxwell (2036) are all contributing on the big league level. I guess I should be happy with those results. I guess it is a little harder when so many of them have moved on already... and for players like Loeffler and Douglas just didn't want to stay here. Not being able to win, well that hurts...

** Henderson is an "impossilbe" sign, but I am going to through some money at him and see what happens. He is 5* prospect out of HS, so I figured it can't hurt. He either signs or doesn't, but win the 8th round I figured it was worth the try.
Drafted SS Fernando Reyna in the 2040 first-year player draft (Round 9, Pick 8, 237th overall pick).
Drafted SP Robert Turman in the 2040 first-year player draft (Round 11, Pick 8, 293rd overall pick).

Drafted SP Claude Edgeworth in the 2040 first-year player draft (Round 15, Pick 8, 405th overall pick).
Not sure how I feel about the overall draft, but I guess I should be happy that I have some decent players. Maybe, just maybe Chapman, Gonzalez and Cox will be the stars we are hoping... only time will tell.
Oh and Henderson... Well I offered him $2.5 million, probably not enough, but like I said worth the chance.
