04/10/1977 - Kingman Slugs Mets to 8-5 Win

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs, 8-5, at Wrigley Field. New York first baseman Dave Kingman was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a triple, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. The Mets, now 2-1, have been playing some good baseball.

Joe Torre, who is a three-time Great Glove Award winner, aided the New York cause with a 2-run single in the top of the first. For the game, the third baseman went 1 for 4 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI.

"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Kingman told reporters after the game. His homers came off RHP Steve Renko and RHP Bruce Sutter.
