Matsuo Picks Up Best DE Conf Batter Honors for May: Even though he is a newcomer to DELMARVA Baseball League, Naganori Matsuo put up some good numbers in May and earned the DE Conf Batter of the Month award. He was one of Chadds Ford's offensive leaders with a .330 average in 28 games. He also racked up 13 home runs, 28 RBIs, and 24 runs scored. This year Matsuo has hit at a .299 pace and produced 38 RBIs, 17 home runs and scored 36 runs.
Georgetown Starter Named DE Conf's Best Pitcher: Whether Chris Brock stays in Georgetown beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In May the 32-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month award. He put up some fancy numbers with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 1.74. In 46.2 innings he struck out 33, surrendered 38 hits, 11 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 6 starts last month. For the season Brock has compiled a 10-2 record with a 2.42 ERA.
Sensational Month for DE Conf Rookie: Naganori Matsuo is a latecomer to this league. The 33-year-old Chadds Ford right fielder is putting up quality numbers, even though he's not your traditional rookie. On the heels of posting a .330 average, the Delaware Conference named him May's Rookie of the Month. He hit 13 home runs last month, knocking in 28 runs and scoring 24 runs. He banged out 35 hits and drew 16 walks to post a .416 OBP. For the season, Matsuo is hitting at a .299 clip with 17 home runs, 38 RBIs and has scored 36 runs. He has 60 hits, 32 walks and a .400 on-base percentage.
MarVa Conference
Gette Top Hitter in MV Conf in May: Ulbrecht Gette may be much younger than other hitters in the MarVa Conference, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in May to win the Batter of the Month award. The 23-year-old Martinsburg left fielder hit .396 with 15 home runs, 33 RBIs and 26 runs scored. This year Gette is batting .293 with 19 home runs. He has scored 41 runs and driven in 45.
MarVa Conference Names #1 Pitcher in May: Veteran Joey Hamrick put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Chesapeake Blue Crabs, earning himself the MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month award. Hamrick racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.37 ERA over 49.1 innings and striking out 21. For this year Hamrick has chalked up 7 wins and 2 losses in 11 starts with 40 strikeouts in 87.2 innings and a 2.98 ERA.
High on the Hit Parade, Liriano Voted #1 Rookie: Lorenzo Liriano proved to be one of the MarVa Conference's preeminent rookies last month, putting up some sensational numbers to take the Rookie of the Month trophy. In May the catcher for Washington had a .351 average, stroked 26 hits, 6 home runs, drove in 14 runs and drew 18 walks for a .478 OBP. A look at his current stats shows Liriano with a .301 average, 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has played in 46 games.
