In the top of the first, Schulte hit an RBI double. Steinfeldt added an RBI single.

In the top of the second, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out. Overall then hit Tinker with a pitch. Slagle would score from third but Slagle had to leave the game with an injured hand and was replaced by Solly Hofman. Chance then added a run-scoring single. Two more runs then scored on a Schulte single. The Cubs batted around the order, scoring four runs in the inning.

Huggins led off the bottom of the third with a double to extend his hit streak to 13 games. Seymour brought him home with a single.

After three: Chicago 6 Cincinnati 1.

Rain began to fall in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Overall singled with runners at second and third and two out. Odwell scored from third but Schlei was thrown out by Slagle trying to score from second.

In the top of the fifth, Sheckard delivered a run-scoring single. However, Sheckard was thrown out trying to steal second, giving Schlei his 30th caught base stealer of the season. A 57 minute rain delay followed the play.

After six: Chicago 7 Cincinnati 2.

In the top of the seventh, with a runner on second and one out, Cy Morgan took the mound for the Reds. Schulte added to the Cubs lead with an RBI triple. One walk later and Sheckard brought two home with a double.

In the bottom of the eighth, Hofman committed back-to-back errors and the Reds loaded the bases with one out. Carl Lundgren took the mound for the Cubs. Schlei popped to the catcher for the second out. Lobert then came through with a two-run single.

In the top of the ninth, Schulte singled to tie a league record with five hits in the game.

In the bottom of the ninth, Johnny Siegle got an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

The Cubs went on to win despite committing four errors. They out hit the Reds 13-7.

Final score: Chicago 10 Cincinnati 5.
