April 8th-April 13th
April 8th, 2029: Nationals 2B Sam Bianco is out for the season with a ruptured medial collateral ligament. He was 0-for-5 in abbreviated major league time.
We opened the series in Colorado with C.J. Jorgensen (0-0, 1.35 ERA, 0.75 WHIP) taking on Ty Madden (1-0, 3.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP). We've seen Madden a ton in Atlanta, so my hitters are very familiar with him, six of the starters with 20 or more career at bats against him. Jorgensen was great, and we topped them 5-1.
C.J. tossed 7 innings with 3 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra and Gene Hall got holds while Chad Scoles struck out the final batter of the game for a save.
Juan Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a double and run scored. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's. Jackson Miller was 1-for-3 with a walk, 2 steals, and run scored. Gregorio Alvarenga was 1-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and walk. Juan Simental was 1-for-5 with a solo homer.
Carlos Correa was 5-for-5 in a 10-2 White Sox win over the Athletics.
April 9th, 2029: We're ranked 5th in the Power Rankings. At 5-2, we are tied with the Phillies for first.
Today's game got rained out, so we'll play two tomorrow. Luckily, we have just a three game set with the Cubs after the double header with an off day after, so I don't really have to mess up the rotation.
April 10th, 2029: Game 1 took place between Devon Peterson (1-0, 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) and Juan Coira (1-0, 5.14 ERA, 1.14 WHIP). The Rockies got three in the 2nd and cruised to a 4-1 win. We only had 1 hit too...
Peterson went 4.2 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Jake Yearick tossed 1.1 innings with 2 hits, a run, a walk, and a strikeout. Josh Brown struck out both batters he faced.
Isaac Nunez was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Daylen Lile was 0-for-2 with a steal, walk, and run scored.
Game two saw Steve Paustian (1-0, 2.25 ERA, 0.63 WHIP) take on former Marlin Shoehi Ohtani. We were able to split the double header and won the finale 6-3.
Our strategy seems to be win the opener, lose the middle game, win the finale. I don't mind this if we can do this in every series, especially the postseason...
Paustian went 5.2 innings with 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. Brown and Priest got holds, while Scoles got the save. Priest went 2 innings with 2 strikeouts, Scoles 1 with 1.
Juan Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored, 2 RBI's, and a walk. Isaac Nunez was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and two steals. Jarred Kelenic was 1-for-4 with a walk and run scored. Jorge Tapia was 1-for-4, the single his first big league hit. Mac Horvath was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI. Chris Reid was 1-for-2 with 2 walks and a run scored. Daylen Lile got a pinch hit single in the 9th, stole second, and then scored.
We're headed back home for three with the Cubs. We'll see Jared Taylor (1-0, 0.00 ERA), Jose Espada (0-0, 1.50 ERA), and Jorge Flores (1-0, 1.54 ERA).
April 11th, 2029: We opened the series against the Cubs with Luis Ardon (0-1, 7.71 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) taking on Jarred Taylor (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1.71 WHIP). It took 10 innings to declare a winner, but Juan Ramirez hit a walk-off single and we won the opener 6-5.
Ardon tossed 4.1 innings with 7 hits, 4 runs, a walk, and 3 strikeouts. Ignacio Hinojos got a hold, 1.2 innings with 3 strikeouts. Luis Alcantra blew the save, a solo homer to the only batter he faced. Gene Hall got the win with a perfect 10th.
Ramirez was 3-for-5 with a solo homer, walk, and the game winning RBI. Chris Reid was 2-for-5 with a solo homer. Jackson Miller was 2-for-3 with 2 walks, a steal, and a run scored. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-6 with a double. Juan Simental was 1-for-6 with a solo homer. Noah Smith was 1-for-2 with 2 steals and a hit by pitch. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a steal, hit by pitch, and run scored.
April 12th, 2029: The Tigers signed RHP Dovydas Neverauskas to a 1-year, $3.8 million deal. Yesterday, the Cubs signed formerm Marlin Riley Ferrell to a 1-year, $5.3 million deal.
We looked to finally win a middle game with Pat Saitta (1-0, 3.55 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) taking on Jose Espada (0-0, 1.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP). Of course, we couldn't, and they outslugged us 10-7. At least we are consistent...
And the Cubs are now 9-2, so it's not like they are as bad as last year.
Saitta had a rough outing, 4 innings with 9 hits, 6 runs, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts. I can hear the pundits already writing him off as "overpaid" and a "waste," but what do they know... Jamie Priest allowed 4 runs, 3 hits, and a walk in a third of an inning. Ignacio Hinojos tossed 1.2 perfect frames with 3 strikeouts.
Chris Reid was 3-for-5 with a homer and 4 RBI's. Juan Ramirez was 2-for-3 with 2 runs, a walk, a double, and a steal. Noah Smith was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's. Jarred Kelenic was 2-for-4 with a run scored and walk. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with an RBI and double. Jackson Miller was 1-for-5 with a run scored. Juan Simental was 1-for-5 with 2 runs scored.
April 13th, 2029: We looked to win the finale with C.J. Jorgensen (1-0, 1.32 ERA, 0.73 WHIP) taking on former Marlin Jorge Flores (1-0, 1.54 ERA, 1.03 WHIP). It was his first start in Marlins Park since leaving, and the welcome wasn't the nicest. Maybe it got to him, maybe not, but either way, we shut them out 5-0.
Jorgensen went 7.1 innings with just 1 hit, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts. Now this is why I traded for him! The pen combined for 1.2 innings, a hit, 2 walks, and a strikeout.
Noah Smith was 3-for-5 with a run scored. Juan Simental was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI. Daylen LIle was 2-for-4 with a run scored, RBI, and steal. Isaac Nunez was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Jorge Tapia was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Gregorio Alvarenga was 1-for-2 with a run scored, 2 walks, and a double. Mac Horvath was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Again, nothing if not consistent!
Reds SS Ronny Mauricio extended his hit streak to 20 games.
We get tomorrow off, as we sit at 8-4 in a three way tie for first, and fie way tie for both Wild Card Spots.
Sidenote: The Seattle Pilots are 9-3 and leading the NL West. This is extremely unsustainable, but hey! Good for them!
