09/15/1976 - Matlack Dazzles in New York Win, Kong Hits 2 More
New York got an elite performance from starting pitcher Jon Matlack in taking a 4-1 decision over the St. Louis Cardinals. First baseman Dave Kingman provided the offense with two homers off RHP Lynn McGlothen. The Mets bumped their record to 76-67 with this latest triumph.
St. Louis could barely put a dent in Matlack. The left-hander tossed 107 pitches over 9 innings for the Mets, allowing only 4 hits.
