06/23/1976 - Kingman Goes Wild, But Cardinals Win 15-14

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the New York Mets, 15-14. Earning player of the game honors was first baseman Dave Kingman, who went 4 for 5 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. His homers came off RHP John Denny and RHP Steve Waterbury.

Tom Walker, credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities. The Cardinals improve their record to 32-36 with the win over New York.

Joe Ferguson, who is tied for 7th in the NL with a .478 slugging percentage, chipped in for St. Louis with a grand slam home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the catcher had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 2 runs scored, and 4 runs batted in.
