October 30th, 1884 - Hilsey to Start World Series Game 2 for Athletics

October 30th, 1884 - Its officially game day for game 2 of the 1884 World Series, and the Philadelphia Athletics have announced that Charlie Hilsey will get the start, and not Bobby Mathews. Like they've done all season, the White Stockings are marching out their workhorse Larry Corcoran to pitch for the second day in a row.
"I could start Bobby," said A's manager Lon Knight, "but I prefer a fresh arm to try and win. And heaven forbid, if necessary, we can play game 3 with Bobby near 100%."
