October 28th, 1884 - Athletics Bench SP Billy Taylor for World Series
October 28th, 1884 - The Philadelphia Athletics have announced that Billy Henry Taylor (7.24 ERA) will not be pitching in Game 2 of the World Series. What they have not done, is say whether they will be going with Bobby Mathews, or instead using emergency starting pitcher Charlie Hilsey (2-4, 4 Saves, 4.09 ERA).
"It's going to be a game day decision," said Philly manager Lon Knight, "We'll have to see how Bobby feels, and see how Charlie is looking. All I can say for certain is that Billy won't be starting."
