07/11/1972 - Giants Score Late, Upend Mets, 5-3
The San Francisco Giants defeated the New York Mets, 5-3, in NL action at Shea Stadium, with San Francisco pitcher Juan Marichal named player of the game. Marichal went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. His record improves to 3-10. Jerry Johnson notched his 11th save in 13 chances.
Jim Ray Hart aided the San Francisco cause with a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh. For the game, the third baseman was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Marichal.
San Francisco goes to 37-54, New York to 39-46.
Kong takes RHP Chuck Taylor deep to aid in the comeback. I guess the shoes were no help to the pitcher.
