Ray Fosse in the 1970 All Star game in extra innings to secure a National League win.
Curt Flood challenged the leagues reserve clause and refused to report to the Philadelphia Phillies, the
Milwaukee Brewers replaced the
Seattle Pilots in a move that never got finalized until nearly opening day and the Sporting News announces before the season starts that they have named
Willie Mays as the player of the decade and he goes and gets his 3000th career hit in July.

Atlanta Braves LF
Rico Carty starts the season with a 31 game hitting streak that ends on May 15th. In 113 at bats he has 51 hits (.451) with 8 HRs and 30 RBIs while striking out just 10 times.
Five Major league hitters hit for the cycle in 1970, all five required the minimum needed hits of four. Dodgers

Cesar Gutierrez was 7 for 7 with 4 doubles and an RBI in a 9-8 12 inning win over the Indians on June 21st. Tigers CF
Mickey Stanley led off the 12th with a HR in the win.
Sixteen players hit 2 Triples in game in 1970, only Dodgers CF
Willie Davis did it twice, both times at the cost of the St Louis Cardinals. On May 15th Davis was 3 for 5 in a 8-6 win over the Cardinals and on August 17th he was 3 for 5 in a 11-8 loss to Cardinals.
Senators
Frank Howard and Astros
Jim Wynn both were given the ultimate respect when each were intentionally walked 3 times in a game. On September 2nd, Howard was walked in the 1st with a runner on 2nd with 1 out. The Senators did not score in the 1st. Howard was walked to start the 3rd inning, he did not score in the inning. Howard was walked again intentionally to lead off the 5th, Howard later scored on a bases loaded wild pitch. In total that day, the Indians walked 5 Senators intentionally and lost 4-1. On July 11th, Wynn's Astros needed 14 innings to beat the Giants 5-4 when received his 3 intentional free passes.
Six MLB hitters whiffed 5 times in a game. Cooling off fans with missed swings would make sense during the summer, but most of the these free swingers took place in the early part of the season. Cardinals

Giants SP
Gaylord Perry went 40 consecutive innings with out giving up a run from September 1st- September 23rd. Perry pitched 4 complete games while on that streak going 4-0 and dropping his seasonal ERA from 3.61 to 3.19. His streak ended in Los Angeles when he gave up 5 runs in 4 innings before getting the hook on September 23rd.

Doc Ellis walked 8 and struck out 6 2-0 win over the Padres on June 12th. Angels SP
Clyde Wright performed the feat on a night that he was being honored by College baseball, on July 3rd the Angels beat the Athletics 4-0 while Wright walked 3 and struck out 1. On July 20th, Dodgers
Bill Singer no hit the Phillies 5-0. Singer struck out 10 and his only blemish is that he plunked RF
Oscar Gamble in the 1st and faced 28 batters.... that close to a perfect game. Athletics SP
Vida Blue no hits the Twins on September 21st in a 6-0 win.
Harmon Killebrew was the Twins only baserunner as he reached on a walk.
New York Mets SP
Tom Seaver struck out 19 in a complete game win on April 22nd in a 2-1 win over the Padres. Seaver struck out the last 10 Padres in the game.
On August 12th, Cardinals SP
Bob Gibson pitched a 14 inning complete game 5-4 win over the Padres. Gibson allowed 13 hits, walked 2 and struck out 13. For the Padres, pitcher
Ron Willis gave up a bases loaded 1 out walk to give the home town Cardinals the win.
Houston Astros SP
Don Wilson gave up 16 hits, but held the Expos to 3 runs in a 7-3 win at the Astrodome. Wilson's 16 hits were the most by any pitcher in the 1970 season during a game.
New York Yankees SP
John Cumberland gave up 5 HRs over just 6 innings but the Yankees still cameback to beat the Indians 8-7 in 11 innings. Indians
Tony Horton hit 2 of those HRs and he hit another against
Fritz Peterson in a losing cause.

Steve Carlton got rocked for 10 earned runs over 4 innings on July 26th in a 12-5 loss to the Reds. Carlton gave up 9 hits, 1 walk, struck out 4 and gave up 3 long balls in the loss. Reds C
Johnny Bench single handedly hit all 3 HRs against Carlton and added 7 RBI.
New York Yankees SP
Mel Stottlemyre maybe needed umpire
Art Frantz to clean the plate a little more often as he walked 11 over 8.1 innings in a 2-0 win over the Senators. Stottlemyre gave up 6 hits and struck out 6 but walked the 3-4-5 hitters a total of 6 times to preserve the win.
Montreal Expos SP
Bill Stoneman battered and bruised hitters during the season whacking 14 of them, but in two games during the 1970 season, Stoneman hit 3 opposition hitters in a game. On May 5th in a 4-1 loss to the Giants, Stoneman lasted 7 innings while giving up 3 hits, but 7 walks and 3 hit batters. On September 22nd in Pittsburgh, Stoneman hit 3 Pirate hitters in a 1-0 win over the Pirates. Besides the 3 plunkings, Stoneman gave up 6 hits, walked 2 and struckout 6 in a complete game win.
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Atlanta Braves 13-8 on April 21st while using the longball. The Reds hit 7 HRs including 4 off SP
Phil Niekro in the win. The Reds also had a pair of doubles and 8 singles to complete the ball bashing.
The Chicago White Sox pounded out 24 hits in a 22-13 win over the Red Sox. The teams combined for 40 hits which surprisingly had only 3 HRs in the game combined. Red Sox SP
Gary Peters lasted long enough to get just 2 outs in the start as the White Sox scored 6, had 5 hits and were aided by 2 Red Sox errors in the top of the 1st.
The longest game of the season was between the Senators and Yankees when the Senators scored with 2 outs in the bottom of the 18th for a 2-1 win. With runners on 1st and 3rd and 1-out, Senators
