August 8th-August 14th

August 8th, 2019: We opened a four game series in Boston with Miles Mikolas (8-4, 3.28 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) facing Daivd Price (4-6, 4.65 ERA, 1.44 WHIP). Despite taking an early 3-0 lead, the Red Sox won the opener 8-4.

It wasn't all Mikolas' fault, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) in 4.2 innings with 5 hits, 5 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Erasmo Ramirez allowed 3 runs in 2.1 innings off 3 hits, a walk, and a strikeout.

Anthony Alford was 2-for-3 with 2 homers, 3 RBI's, and a walk. David Peralta was 1-for-3 with a double, run scored, and RBI. Victor Reyes, Trey Mancini, Lewis Brinson, Chance Sisco, and Andrelton Simmons were all 1-for-4.

August 9th, 2019: Today's game got rained out, so we'd play two tomorrow. I'd have to callup a spot starter, likely Max Fried, to start one of the games.

August 10th, 2019: Before the game, I DFA'd Erasmo Ramirez to teomparily make room for Max Fried. Fried (2-2, 4.26 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) would start game one of the double header against Eduardo Rodriguez (6-6, 4.98 ERA, 1.36 WHIP). It was a close one, but the Red Sox edged us 3-1 as our losing streak extedned to 5...

Fried allowed 5 hits and 3 runs in 4 innings with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Alex Colome tossed 2.1 innings with just 1 hit.

Lewis Brinson was 1-for-2 with a steal snd 2 walks. Anthony Alford was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Nolan Arenado was 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI.

Fried will head back down to AAA and Ramirez will rejoin the roster.

Game two took place between Aaron Sanchez (8-6, 2.85 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) and Rick Porcello (7-7, 5.52 ERA, 1.35 WHIP). Sanchez has now improved to a 4.5* and has slowly climbed up in star rating since the Machado trade. The Red Sox have now won 9 in a row, and beat us 4-2 as we can't even buy a win...

Sanchez allowed 2 runs in 6 innings off 7 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Boone Logan got the loss, walking the only batter he faced, who eventually scored. Blake Trienen allowed a run in the 8th off 2 hits.

David Peralta was 2-for-4 with a double. Jonathan Schoop was 1-for-4 with a double. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with a walk and solo homer.

August 11th, 2019: We really, really, really, needed to win to avoid the four game sweep and stop our skid. Shelby Miller (9-7, 3.45 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) looked to get his 10th win and prevent 10 straight for the Red Sox and Dallas Keuchel (8-6, 4.94 ERA, 1.32 WHIP). Down 4-2 headed into the 8th, we cut the deficit to 4-3 before heading into the 9th. Jonathan Schoop hit a solo homer off Justin Wilson to tie the game at 4 to fource extra innings. In the 10th, Chance Sisco hit an RBI double off former Oriole Kelvin Herrera, and we finally won a game.

Miller didn't do too well, 5 innings with 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. The pen tossed 5 innings with just 1 hit, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Zach Britton got the win, an inning with a walk and 2 strikeotus. Erasmo Ramirez got the save, a perfect 10th with a strikeout.

Schoop pwas just 1-for-4 with the game tieing homer. Lewis Brinson was 2-for-4 with a double and solo homer. Chance Sisco was 2-for-5 with 2 doubles, a run, and an RBI. Trey Mancini was 1-for-5 with a solo homer. David Peralta had a pinch hit double in the 10th and scored the go ahead run. Victor Reyes was 2-for-5.

Our road trip continues with three in Detroit. The last place Tigers would send Daniel Norris (3-6, 4.96 ERA), Gregory Soto (5-8, 4.96 ERa), and Matt Boud (1-6, 5.60 ERA) to the mound.

August 12th, 2019: I placed minor leaguer Chris Lee on the 60-Day DL with a torn rotator cuff. Likely not to pitch next season either, I can't see him surviving on the roster.

I also expected the power rankings to be announced, but I didn't get an email about it...

Anyways, we started the series in Detroit with Reynaldo Lopez (10-4, 3.80 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) facing Greogry Soto (5-8, 4.96 ERA, 1.46 WHIP). It was a back and forth game, but we managed to win the opener 7-4.

Lopez got the win, 5 innings with 5 hits, 3 runs, and 5 strikeouts. Erasmo Ramirez and Boone Logan got holds before Zach Britton converted his 25th save in 25 attempts. Ramirez was charged with a run and 3 hits with a strikeout in 2 innings.

Chance Sisco was 3-for-4 anda triple away from the cycle. He scored twice and drove in 3 runs. Nolan Arenado was 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored and a solo homer. Victor Reyes was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Jose Peraza was 1-for-2 with a steal and two walks. Lewis Brinson was 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored. Andrelton Simmons was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a sac-fly.

August 13th, 2019: Mets SP Rafael Montero is out for the year with a damaged elbow ligament. He was 3-1 with a 5.35 ERA in 7 starts.

Dodgers RHP Ross Stripling is out for the rest of the year and most of next season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. He was 7-6 with a 4.08 ERA in 68.1 innings with 68 strikeouts and 16 walks.

The middle game saw Kevin Gausman (8-6, 5.05 ERA, 1.44 WHIP) return to the rotation against Daniel Norris (3-6, 4.96 ERA, 1.57 WHIP). It wasn't pretty, and they crushed us 10-4.

Gausman was charged with 10 hits, 7 runs (4 earned), and 2 walks with just 2 strikeouts. Alex Colome got a strikeout, but allowed 2 hits, 3 runs, and a walk.

Lewis Brinson was 2-for-3 with a walk, 2 runs, and a solo homer. Trey Mancini was 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk. Jonathan Shcoop was 1-for-4 with a two run homer. Anthony Algord was 1-for-4 with a walk and double.

Tigers LF Adam Frazier was 5-for-5.

Braves SP Shane Carle tossed a 5-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over the Marlins.

August 14th, 2019: The Dodgers will be without another pitcher, SP Charlie Morton, for the year with a damaged elbow ligament. In 13 starts, he was 2-5 with a 5.80 ERA and 39 strikeouts.

Miles Mikolas (8-5, 3.30 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) faced Matt Boyd (1-6, 5.60 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) in the finale. Considering we are much better then them, we really need this win. The offense agreed, and we crushed them 10-1 to win the first series in what seems like forever.

Mikolas was brilliant, 7.1 innings with 5 hits, a run, a walk, and 7 strikeouts. Erasmo Ramirez finished the game, 1.2 innings with a strikeout.

Trey Mancini was 2-for-3 with 3 runs, 3 RBI's, a walk, hit by pitch, sac-bunt, and a home run. Andrelton Simmons was 3-for-5 with a steal, run scored, and RBI. Chance Sisco was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, a walk, and an RBI. Victor Reyes was 2-for-5 wiht a run scored, 3 RBI's, and a double. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-3 with a double. Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-4 with a run scored, 2 RBI's, and a walk.

After the rough road trip, we'll head home to face the AL West leading Astros for four games. We'll face Lance McCullers Jr. (6-8, 4.14 ERA), Gerrit Cole (7-10, 5.21 ERA), Justin Verlander (7-4, 4.69 ERA), and J.B. Bukauskas (0-1, 3.86 ERA).
