May 23rd-May 29th
May 23rd, 2019: We got today off, as we headed to Minnesota for three. We'd see Willy Peralta (0-0, 5.79 ERA), Drew Smyly (1-1, 3.57 ERA), and Jose Berrios (1-5, 7.62 ERA).
May 24th, 2019: We looked to continue our win streak with Erasmo Ramirez (1-1, 3.23 ERA, 1.14 WHIP) taking on Willy Peralta (0-0, 5.79 ERA, 0.86 WHIP). It was a great pitching performance by Erasmo, and we won 4-1 in the opener.
Ramirez went 6, allowing 3 hits and a run while striking out 7. Joakim Soria and Boone Logan got holds while Zach Britton got the save.
Jonathan Schoop was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Jose Peraza was 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored. Anthony Alford was 1-for-4 with a double and run scored. Trey Mancini was 1-for-4 with a double, run scored, and RBI.
May 25th, 2019: The White Sox will be without LHP Xavier Cedeno for the year with a torn flexor tendon. He was 1-3 with a 5.23 ERA in 19 relief appearences.
Drew Pomeranz (2-1, 3.83 ERA, 1.43 WHIP) faced Drew Smyly (1-1, 3.57 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) in a battle of southpaw Drews. We got 4 in the 8th, but it wasn't enough, as the hit streak was snapped at 12.
Pomeranz went 5, allowing 7 hits, 3 runs, and he struck out 4. Jake Diekman allowed a run in the 6th off a hit, walk, and strike out. Kelvin Herrera went 0.2 innings with 3 hits and 2 runs. Pedro Araujo got the loss, 2 innings with 3 hits, a run, 2 walks, and 2 strike outs.
Trey Mancini was 1-for-3 with a wlak and two run homer. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-4 with a walk and two run homer. Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-4 with a 2 run triple. Chance Sisco was 1-for-3 with a double and walk. Michael A. Taylor was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, and run scored.
May 26th, 2019: We looked to earn the series win with Kevin Gausman (3-3, 5.88 ERA, 1.62 WHIP) taking on Jose Berrios (1-5, 7.62 ERA, 1.69 WHIP) who's really had a bad game. It wasn't even close, and we were killed 13-1. Wow...
Gausman allowed 7 in 3.1 innings with 6 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Nathan Eovaldi allwoed 2 in 2.2 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Mychal Givens allowed 6 hits with 4 runs (3 earned) in 1.1 innings with 4 strikeouts.
Jonathan Schoop was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Chance Sisco was 1-for-3 with a double. That's all the offense...
Joey Votto hit his 300th homer in a 4-2 Reds over the Pirates. The 35-year-old vet has played 1,637 games with a .313/.430/.541 line.
Off to Houston for three, as we'll face Justin Verlander (2-2, 6.34 ERA), Francis Martes (3-2, 4.53 ERA), and Lance McCullers Jr. (1-6, 6.19 ERA).
May 27th, 2019: I DFA'd Ian Desmond to recall Jose Iglesias from his rehab assignment. I glesias will fill a bench rolefor now.
We dropped to fourth in the Power Rankings, despite still being 29-18 and only losing twice in the past fourteen games...
We opened the series in Houston with Aaron Sanchez (3-3, 3.34 ERA, 0.89 WHIP) taking on Justin Verlander (2-2, 6.34 ERA, 1.53 WHIP). Sanchez was dominate, and we shut the 'Stros out 2-0. Sanchez>>>>Verlander
Just saying...
Sanchez allowed just 4 hits and a walk in 8 beautiful innings with 5 strikeouts. Zach Britton got the save, getting a punchout in a perfect ninth.
Trey Mancini was 2-for-4 with a solo shot. Lewis Brinson doubled twice in a 2-for-4 game with an RBI. Jonathan Schoop was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
May 28th, 2019: Max Fried (2-1, 3.71 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) took on Francis Martes (3-2, 4.53 ERA, 1.51 WHIP) in the second of three. The Astros actually hit today, and won 7-1 to even the series and their record.
Fried allowed 6 hits and 4 runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts in 5 innings. Jake Diekman allowed 2 runs in the 7th with 3 hits, a walk, and strikeout. Nathan Eovaldi allowed the final run in the 9th, allowing 2 hits as well.
Lewis Brinson was 3-for-4 with a solo homer. Trey Mancini was 2-for-4 with a double. Anthony Alford was 1-for-3 with a walk.
May 29th, 2019: Alex Cobb is beginning a rehab assignment in AAA.
We looked to win the series with Erasmo Ramirez (2-1, 2.95 ERA, 1.04 WHIP) taking on Lance McCullers Jr. (1-6, 6.19 ERA, 1.54 WHIP). We allowed 4 in the 8th to fall behind 5-4, but the scored 3 in the top of the 9th. They got once back in the bottom half, but 4 Astro errors helped lead us to a 7-6 win.
Ramirez pitched fine, 4.1 innings with 6 hits, a run, walk, and 5 strikeouts. Eovaldi got a hold, 2.2 innings with a hit and 2 srikeouts. Boone Logan blew the save, 4 runs off 4 hits (including 2 homers) while getting just 1 out. Joakim Soria improved to 3-0, going 0.2 innings with a hit and walk. Britton got the save, a run and a hit with a walk in the 9th.
It was ugly, but a win none the less...
Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-4 with a walk, a homer, and 4 RBI's. Tim Beckham was 2-for-5 with 3 runs and an RBI. Lewis Brinson was 1-for-4 with a walk and RBI. Yolmer Sanchez was 1-for-3 with a walk.
We get tomorrow off, and will head homer before facing the Rangers!
I got the achievemnt "On a Roll" for the 12 game streak.
