GM’s notebook
- Today is free agent filing day, and Curt Cox and António Fernández have left the club. As expected, neither will attract compensation when they sign elsewhere.
- Fernández had a nice season (.728 OPS) but is asking for $15m over 2 years, which is quite a stretch.
- We will probably not be active in the free agent market as usual this year. The most important priority for the offseason is to trade Robinson Ortíz to keep the 2052 budget under control.
- But the most urgent priority is to investigate possible trades for Jeffrey White. If I’m going to move him (and it’s a big ‘if’), the time is now, before teams start to tie up their unspent payroll in offers and contracts for free agents.
