October 7th, 1883 - Cleveland Wins World Series, Champions for Third Straight Year
October 7th, 1883 - After an incredible season, Bobby Mathews finally met his match against the talented hitters of the Cleveland Blues. In the bottom of the fifth, Mike Muldoon hit a 430 foot solo homerun to left center, and that was the impetus the crowd and the Blues batters need to pile on 4 more runs for a 5-1 victory. Back to back triples in the sixth inning by Philips and Hotaling seemed to rattle Mathews and the Athletics. The Cleveland crowd came alive and never let up from that point on. Congratulations to the Cleveland Blues!
