Wasn't going to respond but I think we should clarify that what dbqs says does work. I understand it's not how you want to do it.
I've been doing what you say in bold and simming day by day for hundreds of seasons over many versions. When I do play out selected games I sometimes change the changes made that day on the 7-day lineup in-game if I see something different.
I'd put this as a YMMV unless I'm missing something obvious.
